SINCE GRADUATING from business school, I have struggled to find my place where my skills, talents, interests, passions, and values align with no conflict. I have attended and done well in top schools, have had amazing experience, and I am ambitious and driven. Gratefully, there have been no issues with my abilities or performance… my managing director at Lehman Brothers used to say frustratingly, yet insightfully, “If you had any passion in what you are doing, you would be my star performer.” I have always seemed to have had one foot in conformity (being what I was ‘supposed’ to be) and one foot out (being my true self), which left me successful in neither. Although this path provided many valuable tools, connections, and experience, it left me frustrated… something was missing… I was not happy with where I was in life.
One day, I woke up and said to myself:
“You know what… I do not like where my life is now.”
Then I realized and said with conviction:
“I am totally responsible for where my life is. If I want my conditions to change, if I want my life to be different, then I have to change myself.”
Pain, unhappiness, frustration… all have virtue, for they have the power to inspire to look for answers… and they usually lie within.
Taking accountability is the first step, and since that day, I have remained on a path in which I am tapping into the internal resources that every one of us has access to. The change I wanted was not going to come from external things changing, but rather, from simply changing myself. Change does not come from getting that certain job, saving a certain amount of money, or getting that degree, but comes only when we look within and begin tapping into our true God-like inner-self.
The greatest change comes from how one thinks and perceives the world.
If you change your mind, you literally change your world. When you take control and responsibility of your thoughts and are true to your inner-nature… it will amaze you as to the doors that will mysteriously arise and open for you.
I have enjoyed my path of empowerment and have been in such awe of the power that we have within (which interestingly, is being highlighted by discoveries in neuroscience), that my path will be one that shares this information with as many as possible. There are so many people that have so much, but feel that something is missing… well, what they are looking for lies within and is always there to ready to be tapped into…
